Portrait Sessions

Clothing that does not attract attention to itself is the ultimate goal.  It could be the difference between a very successful portrait and just another picture.  Keep your clothing simple and coordinated.  Avoid loud or busy patterns, large logos, neon colors and  shiny fabrics.  Solid colors are best.  First, decide whether the basic tone of the clothing will be warm-toned or cool-toned.  Keeping a group in similar colors focuses the attention of the portrait to the faces and individuals that make up the portrait.  Dissimilar colors in groups tend to be more distracting.  White tops with khakis or jeans look amazing.....jeans are a timeless choice! Everyone should have color-coordinated clothing to create a harmonious theme throughout the portrait.  Childrens outfits should fit nicely without a lot of "growing room".  Add in texture with leggings, scarves, jewelry, etc.  Don't be afraid to mix and match and get creative!  Be sure that you are comfortable with what you wear.  Try on your outfit choices before your session and make sure you love it from all angles.  Most importantly, remember.....when you feel gorgeous....you look gorgeous!!

Tip #1

Lay out all the clothing onto a bed.  Socks, stockings - everything should be included....shoes too!  Then take a careful look at the collection.  If your eye goes to any one item in particular, you can be certain that the same thing will happen in a photograph.  That item should be changed.  Clothing should not be too tight or too loose.

Tip #2

Analogous color scheme.....say what???  In a nutshell analogous color schemes use colors that are next to each other on the color wheel.  They usually match well and create a serene and comfortable feeling within a portrait.

Tip #3

What about those shoes?  Always opt for boots, loafers, pretty sandals or dressier shoes rather than your everyday tennis shoes.  Bare feet are great in certain photos....it's absolutely adorable for babies and small children.

Forecasts and Weather

In the case of inclement weather (including excessive heat\humidity, high winds, and rain), sessions will  be rescheduled to a new date within a reasonable time frame.  Keep in mind that I have your best interest at heart when making any decisions regarding weather.  Photography is all about lighting and I want you to have the best session possible!

The Rule.....Yes There's Just One!

The number one rule for all sessions is to simply RELAX and have fun!  Try not to show up to your session overwhelmed and stressed.  The goal is to capture you just as you are.  Often times candid photos end up being favorites over a more posed portrait.  Be prepared to play, act silly and have FUN!
